Announcement of the opening of an embassy for the Saharawi Republic in Zimbabwe

Harare, Sept 17, 2011 (SPS) - The opening of an embassy for the Saharawi Republic (SADR) in Zimbabwe officially announced on Thursday Sept 15, which stems from the historic relations existing between the two Saharawi and Zimbabwean brotherly peoples and which based on joint history of struggle against colonialism,” according to a statement of the SADR Embassy in Harare.

The statement said that the decision of opening an embassy for the SADR “falls within the firm approach of the foreign policy of the Saharawi state in deepening and developing the relations with all African nations on the direct bilateral level or on the AU level. In addition, it stems from the solid belief of the Saharawi people to the past and future unity with peoples of the continent as a whole.”

The Republic of Zimbabwe has recognized the Saharawi Republic since June 3, 1980 and established political relations on the ambassadorial level since ever. Mr. Daich Mohamed Saleh, who has presented his credentials, is the first resident ambassador for the Saharawi Republic in Harare. (SPS)
