"There is no French support in favour of Morocco," says French Ambassador in Algiers

Relizane (Algeria), September 20, 2011 (SPS) - "There is no French support pronounced in favour of Morocco," declared the French Ambassador in Algiers, Mr. Xavier Driencourt, adding that "France and its government are on the side of Algeria and follow closely what is happening here."

Regarding the role that France played in the Western Sahara conflict, the French Ambassador specified that "there is no French support pronounced in favour of Morocco." "We support Christopher Ross’s UN plan and the efforts of the United Nations," he declared at the press conference he hosted Monday in Relizane .

In these statements, Mr. Driencourt recalled, without saying so explicitly, that the only policy advocated by France on the Western Sahara issue is the return to the international legality. This suggests that this conflict must be addressed by the institution empowered to do so, the United Nations.

In essence, he said that "there is no particular tropism for Morocco," concluded the French diplomat. (SPS)
