Quito (Ecuador), Sept 21, 2011 (SPS) - The Ecuadorian government has appointed its Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Mr. Francisco Carrion, as an ambassador to the Saharawi Republic (SADR), according to a statement of the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Ecuador.

“The government of Ecuador sees it is appropriate to appoint its permanent representative to the United Nations in New York as an ambassador to the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic in order to further strengthen the strong ties of friendship and cooperation linking the two states,” indicated the statement.

It underlined that this decision “will consolidate the bilateral relations between the two governments and peoples.”

Ecuador is the second country that appoints its UN permanent representative as an ambassador to the Saharawi Republic after El Salvador.

The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic was officially recognized as a state by the Republic of Ecuador on November 14, 1983. (SPS)
