Dakhla (occupied territories), September 26, 2011 (SPS) At least eight people were injured in clashes that took place Sunday night at the occupied city of Dakhla, following a peaceful demonstration calling for the immediate withdrawal of the Moroccan occupation and independence of Western Sahara, said a Sahrawi judicial source there.

According to a first assessment, the Moroccan occupying forces brutally intervened to disperse the demonstrators, causing several injuries, most of which are classified as "serious," added the source.

They are: Bella Hamma Ould Ahmed Zain, Mohamed Yahdih Chabad, Omar Mohamed Ould Bella, Cheikh Ould Yahdih Bousseif, Khaled Bouaila, Sidahmad Elkori, Ould Sid Ahmed Ould Meichan, Meddah Mechnan, while two others were arrested, Ould Dah Ould Babah Cheibani and Mansour Salami.

"At least ten homes were ransacked and several vehicles owned by  Sahrawis  were destroyed and their property stolen by Moroccan settlers," said the source.

The city of Dakhla is under a state of siege since Sunday night, the source said, noting the deployment of more than 17 Moroccan military trucks to prevent any protests demanding the right of the Saharawi people to self- determination and the independence of Western Sahara. (SPS)
