Opening of new Saharawi representation in Sesto Fiorentino (Florence)

Rome, Nov 22, 2011 (SPS) - A new Saharawi representation devoted to the victims of Gdeim Izik camp was opened in the Italian city of Sesto Fiorentino (Florence) to strengthen the Saharawi diplomatic efforts in Tuscany, the Polisario Front representative in Italy, Omar Mih, told Monday the Algerian Press Service (APS).

 

“The inauguration of this new representation is a sign of support for the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination by the elected officials of Sesto Fiorentino, " the Mayor Gianni Gianassi underlined.

 

"This act is dedicated to the memory of the victims of the bloody events that took place a year ago following the dismantling of  Gdeim Izik by Moroccan army of occupation,"  Mr. Mih said,recalling that "the first anniversary of the event, commemorated with a great deal of attention in Italy, was an opportunity to denounce the gross human rights violations in occupied Western Sahara".

 

" The Mayor supervised the ignuration with memorial set at the entrance of the building to commemorate the dismantling of the campItalian , in the presence of the European MP Leonardo Domenici, and the Saharawi representative in Tuscany, Mohamed Salem Abdallahi," Mr.Mih underlined.

 

“The new representative comes to build  ties of cooperation between the SADR, the municipal government and local NGOs in solidarity with the Saharawi cause, " Saharawi diplomat indicated.

 

The opening ceremony, attended by citizens, representatives of associations and friends of the Saharawi people, Sahrawi human rights activists, Sultana Khaya,

 

NGOs have reaffirmed commitment to continue cooperation with the Saharawi refugees despite the terrorist attack resulted the abduction of three European aid workers in the Saharawi refugee camps

 

Ms. Sultana Khaya drew the attention “to the grave situation  Saharawi political prisoners in Salé (Morocco) began an unlimited hunger strike since Oct 23, to demand their release or a fair trial, denouncing human rights violations in occupied Western Sahara. (SPS)
