Polisario Front denounces vote of European parliament’s Fisheries Committee to renew fisheries agreement with Morocco

Submitted on

Brussels, November 23,2011(SPS)  The Polisario Front, Tuesday , denounced  the vote by the European Pariament’s Fisheries Committee to recommend the entry into force of the proposed one-year renewal of the EU’s Fisheries Partnership Agreement with Morocco, which is used by EU fishermen to fish illegally in Western Sahara's waters.

“After both the Budget and Development Committees called on the European Parliament to reject this agreement, the Fisheries Committee, swayed by the greedy interests of the European fishing lobby, has taken a different view,” said, the Minister delegate for Europe Mohamed Sidati.

“This is an unfortunate development that calls into question the European Parliament’s reputation as a defender of international law and human rights.” He said in a press release reached SPS.

“We now look to the European Parliament plenary to do what's right when it votes on the agreement in coming weeks, and to take a stand against the plunder of our resources.”SPS
