Tifariti (liberated territories), Dec 14, 2011 (SPS) - The Thirteenth Congress of the Frente Polisario, which bears the name of the Martyr Mahfud Ali Beiba, will open tomorrow in the liberated town of Tifariti under the title "independent Saharawi state is the solution", in the presence of more than 300 foreign participants and 2100 Saharawi delegates.
A source of the Preparatory Committee told SPS that more than foreign journalists expected to attend the Congress includes representatives of Algerian, Mauritanian and Spanish media as well as correspondents of prominent television channels like Nigerian television and the Qatari Channel of Al Jazeera.
The Congress will be attended by 2100 Saharawi delegates including 50 delegates representing the occupied territories and more than 300 foreign participants from various countries: from Algeria, Mauritania, South Africa, Nigeria, Angola, Spain, Italy, European Parliament, Slovenia, Ukraine, Belgium, Hungary, Portugal, Cuba, Mexico, El Salvador, Colombia, Timor-Leste, Russia, Venezuela, Brazil and other delegations from Asia as well as Moroccan journalist.
The Congress of the Frente Polisario is the supreme body of the people. It decides on the major tasks of the political, organizational, military, social, economic, diplomatic, media, cultural and other areas of the national struggle.
The Congress is held every three years in a regular session be postponed once for 1 years as a maximum. The participants in the Congress are: activists elected from both sexes, members of the National Secretariat and government, ambassadors, local political officials, members of the General Staff of the Saharawi People's Liberation Army, delegates elected from every military region, representatives of mass and student organizations, heads of the municipalities, delegates representing the Saharawi community abroad.
It evaluates the phase between two congresses, decides a program of national action, review the provisions of the Polisario Front’s basic law and constitution of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic, elect secretary general for the Polisario Front and members of its National Secretariat, which is the leadership body responsible for the struggle of the Saharawi people between tow congresses.
Since its establishment on 10 May 1973, the Polisario Front has hold 12 congresses. Each one was a new turning point in the path to acquaintance with requirements of the time of its holding, in a way that maintain the continuity of the liberation struggle and efforts for the national construction.
