Opening of works of the Polisario Front´s Thirteenth Congress

Tifariti (liberated territories), Dec 15, 2011 (SPS) - The Thirteenth Congress of the Frente Polisario, which bears the name of the Martyr Mahfud Ali Beiba, opened this morning in the liberated town of Tifariti under the title "independent Saharawi state is the solution", in the presence of more than 300 foreign participants and 2100 Saharawi delegates.

During the opening ceremony, president of the preparatory committee proposed a presidency of the Congress includes 7 members as follow: Hamada Salma, minister of justice as a president, Salek Baba Hasana, minister of cooperation, Mariam Salek Hmada, minister of education, Hama Bounia, governor of Smara, Sidi Mohamed Omar, ambassador to Ethiopia and permanent representative to the AU, and Ahmed Lehbib, secretary general of the Saharawi Student Union (UESARIO), in addition to Daida Ould Alyazid as honoring member from the occupied territories.

Moreover, the Congress listened to a literary report presented by the President of the Republic and Secretary General of the Frente Polisario, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, briefing through evaluation and statistics all the achievements and challenges recorded between the two congresses, stopping at the main difficulties and obstacles in the light of the objectives and strategy of work adopted by the 12th Conference of 2007.

According to the Congress agenda, the delegates will study the other documents presented to the Congress such as: evaluation, current situation, Intifada of Independence, draft of national action programme and draft of basic law, within working committees before approval.

The Congress will be included with the adoption of final communiqué and a number of messages and recommendations.

The Congress is attended by 2100 Saharawi delegates including 50 delegates representing the occupied territories and more than 300 foreign participants from various countries: from Algeria, Mauritania, South Africa, Nigeria, Angola, Spain, Italy, European Parliament, Slovenia, Ukraine, Belgium, Hungary, Portugal, Cuba, Mexico, El Salvador, Colombia, Timor-Leste, Russia, Venezuela, Brazil and other delegations from Asia as well as Moroccan journalist.
