Midrand (South African), Jan 21, 2012 (SPS) - The Pan-African Parliament called Friday for the need to the earnest action to liberate the last colony in Africa, namely Western Sahara, through presentations by Chairperson of the AU Commission, Mr. Jean Ping, AU Commissioner for Peace & Security, Mr. Ramatane Lamamra, and President of PAP Standing Committee on Cooperation, International Relations & Conflict Resolutions.
The presentations called for giving the Saharawi cause, as a decolonization issue, a priority, calling for the need to act and concert efforts of the African Union so that the Saharawi people enjoy their inalienable right to freedom and live in dignity like other peoples of the African continent.
The session marked by interventions by deputies of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic, who significantly contributed to mobilize more support to the draft resolution to be taken by the Pan African Parliament on the question of Western Sahara.
The initiative of adopting the resolution met applause by the representatives of many African countries like Kenya, Mali, Algeria, Senegal, Botswana, the Republic of Sudan, Rwanda, Niger, which stressed in their interventions on the necessity to support the cause of the Saharawi people and their just struggle for freedom and independence.
They also demanded that Morocco raises his hand on Western Sahara and stop the violation of human rights as well as the plundering of the natural resources in the Region. (SPS)
