Gdeim Izik detainees recall EU President to the atrocities committed by Morocco in Western Sahara

Salé (Morocco), Feb 10, 2012 (SPS) - The Saharawi political prisoners incarcerated in the Moroccan jail of Salé 2 on Gdeim Izim camp’s events have sent a letter to the President of the EU, calling his attention to the atrocities and violations of human rights committed Morocco against the unarmed Saharawi citizens in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.

“In parallel with that, Morocco has committed atrocities and gross violations against the defenseless Saharawi civilians in the occupied part of Western Sahara, through the mass abduction, enforced disappearance, severe torture as well as throwing civilians from the airplanes and burying them alive in mass graves, as reported by various international human rights organizations,” asserted the letter, which a copy of it reached SPS.

The letter indicated that Morocco is the direct responsible for what happened and still happening of atrocities and flagrant violations against the Saharawi civilians, when it take the 23 Saharawi political prisoner to military court on the ground of fabricated charges and depriving them from basic rights contained the international charters and law.

It also underlined that such acts “drove on 10 Oct 2010 the Saharawis to collectively displace to the point of Gdeim Izik to protest and demand their rights in a peaceful and civilized way.”

“The auxiliary forces, Gendarmerie, secret services and the special band Commandos carried out, directly after the heinous crime committed against the innocents in the dignity camp of Gdeim Izik on the outskirts of occupied El Aaiun, campaigns of random arrests targeting women, elderly and children, as well it imposed a military, security and media blockade over the Territory to cover up its heinous crimes,” added the lletter.
