Shaheed Al Hafed (refugee camps), Feb 27, 2012 (SPS) - The Saharawi people celebrates today the proclamation of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic through organizing festivities and events in the refugee camps, liberated territories and occupied territories.

The event coincided with the official inauguration of the Saharawi National Council in the liberated Tifariti by the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, which reflects adherence of the Saharawi people to their right to self-determination, their determination to continue the peaceful struggle for independence and their firm commitment to an independent state of law and sovereignty.

The Saharawi officials indicated, in their speeches marking the occasion, that the coincidence of Parliament inauguration and commemoration of the SADR “is not an accident, but an opportunity to recall the Moroccan Kingdom and France that the Saharawi state still exists, through its bodies as well as institutions, and recognized by 80 countries across the world.”

The event also coincided with launch of the twelfth edition of the annual international sport demonstration “Sahara Marathon”, participated by more than 200 sportsmen from various nationalities: Algeria, Spain, France, Holland, Italy, Romania, Germany, Argentina, Britain, United States of America, Slovenia, Austria, South Africa and Belgium.

“The Marathon is way of solidarity with the Saharawi people and their just cause through sport,” the Minister of Youth and Sport, Mr. Mohamed Mouloud Mohamed Fadel, told Monday the press.

In relevant context, the French Caravan of Solidarity with the Saharawi People expected to invite this mid-day to visit the National Museum of Resistance and Association of Families of the Sahrawi Prisoners and Disappeared (AFAPREDESA), before meeting with the Saharawi President. (SPS)
