Delegation of the Saharawi women participate at 56th UN session on women

New York, March 4, 2012 (SPS) - A delegation representing the Saharawi women led by Secretary General of the Saharawi Woman Union, Ms. Fatma Mehdi, is taking part at the sixty-fifth ordinary session of the Commission on the Status of Women, held in the UN headquarters from March 1 to 9, 2012.

The session discusses several issues interesting women including the issues of peace, food security, environment and others.

The event is also an opportunity for the African Union Commission to organize meetings with women of the continent who take part in the Session. These meetings will focus on topics like holding a special meeting for the experts and ministers concerned with gender and woman affairs at headquarters of the AU Permanent Mission to the UN and reports of the Committee of 30, which the Saharawi woman is a member.

During these meetings, three main topics were identified, mainly agriculture, food security and environment as future projects to be submitted before May 31, 2012. (SPS)
