Submitted on

Basque (Spain), March 17, 2012 (SPS) - The Basque Municipality of Bilbao approved Friday a range of motions of solidarity with the Saharawi cause and political prisoners, in the context of widening of the solidarity movement with the Saharawi people along Spain.

The Municipality denounced the systematic abuses to human rights and fundamental rights of the Saharawi civilians in the occupied Western Sahara, calling for releasing all the Saharawi political detainees as to unveil fate of the disappeared.

It congratulated the Polisario Front, as the legitimate representative of the Saharawi people, for “progressing towards a just, peaceful, transparent and democratic solution through a series of direct negotiations in line with resolutions of the UN Security Council, a thing that leaves the hope for peace and stability in the Maghreb region.”

It also appealed to the Spanish Government to take, from its historic responsibilities, a more active role in the framework of the United Nations to reach a quick, just and lasting solution to the conflict in Western Sahara. (SPS)
