Saharawi government urges international community to stand resolute against Moroccan wall of Shame

February 27th School, March 05, 2012 (SPS) -  Prime Minister, Abdelkader Taleb Omar, has called on the international community to take a firm stand  against the Moroccan wall of Shame which splits Saharawi people and its land for more than three decades.


"We're still waiting for the international community to take a firm stand regarding to the wall that Morocco has built which splits families, people and the territory of Western Sahara, is itself a crime against humanity, a wall equipped with millions of Mines and constitutes a continuing threat to the Saharawi people, livestock and the environment, "said Mr. Abdelkader Taleb Omar during a conference on the risks of mines took place Wednesday in 27th February School.


Prime Minster has urged the international community "to work to dismantle the wall of Shame and put pressure on Kingdom of Morocco to provide access to international organizations aiming at cleaning the Sahrawi occupied territories of the of the mines ".


He also blamed the Moroccan state for delaying cooperation between the Maghreb Arab people through maneuvering the negotiating rounds under the UN supervision, "an attempt to evade its obligations in organizing a free and fair referendum "


Furthermore, Mr. Taleb Omar expressed Saharawi government’s satisfaction on clearance of large areas in the liberated territories from the cluster bombs and mines, applauding the work of the organization "Action Against Gun Violence" (Landmine Action), reaffirming the Saharawi government's commitment to continue to provide needed care to the victims.


The Sahrawi Association of Victims of Mines has issued a statement to mark the International  Day for mines awarness, calling upon the international community to demand the government of Morocco to join the international campaign to ban landmines in Western Sahara.(SPS)
