Copenhagen, 8 April, 2012 (SPS) - Danish Minister for Trade and Investment, Pia Olsen Dyhr, said "Denmark will not support or subsidize Danish companies that operate in Western Sahara where the question of sovereignty is presently unresolved”, according to the Polisario Front representation in Denmark.
In a response to various questions presented recently by the Danish Committee of Foreign Affairs in the Danish Parliament to the Danish Minister of Trade and Investment, Mrs. Pia Olsen Dyhr said that “the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has no tax-financed programmes or undertakings that seek to promote Danish business interests in Western Sahara, nor does the Ministry have any plans of such undertakings."
“Based on a concrete enquiry by the Danish Export Credit Agency (EKF), concerning whether the EKF could risk assess Danish investments in Western Sahara, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs discouraged the EKF from working in areas, such as Western Sahara, where the question of sovereignty is presently unresolved.” Added Danish Minister of Trade and Investment.
The Danish position is consistent with that of Scandinavian countries as Norway and Sweden as well as European Parliament's refusal to extend fishing agreement with Morocco. (SPS)
