Moroccan occupation forces repress peaceful demonstrations in occupied El Aaiun

El Aaiun (occupied territories), April 29, 2012 (SPS) - The Moroccan occupation forces violently repressed Saturday massive peaceful demonstrations held in occupied city of El Aaiun, capital of Western Sahara, informed a source of the Ministry of Occupied Territories and Communities Abroad.

Clashes intensified between Moroccan forces and a group of Saharawi demonstrators after they prevented the access to place of the sit-in, outside what so-called the Moroccan Council of Human Rights to demand that Moroccan authorities respect the freedom of expression and stop the violence, arrest and systematic torture against the Saharawis in occupied Western Sahara.

Other violent clashes erupted between the Saharawis and Moroccan forces of occupation in the quarters of Maatala, Inaach, Zamla and Quds as well as the suburbs of MINURSO headquarters and Boucraa leadership, in addition to the streets of Smara, Skeikima, Sar el-Khaima, Grand Arab Maghreb and Deddach, according to the same source.

The Saharawi demonstrators chanted anti-occupation slogans calling for independence, freedom and self-determination, despite the Moroccan police attempts to arrest some of them.

It also recorded a number of victims like Glana Fadi, Lehbib Gasmi, Mohamed Zagman amd Habub Lushaa, in addition to several injuries such as Hamza Filali, Baali Husein and Omar Ben Gasem.

In the same regard, President of Republic, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, pointed in a letter to Ban Ki-moon to “a new Moroccan repressive and brutal intervention on the Saharawi civilians in the Saharawi occupied territories, simply they expressed attachment to defend their legitimate rights guaranteed by the Charter and resolutions of the United Nations, particularly the right to self-determination and independence, and demanded the release of all the Saharawi prisoners imprisoned after the dismantling of Gdeim izik on November 8, 2010 and all other Saharawi political prisoners.” (SPS)
