Melbourne (Australia)May2,2012(SPS) The Saharawi human rights activist from the occupied territories of Western Sahara, Malak Amidane, has begun a visit to Melbourne(Australia) to inform the Australian civil society and media about violation of human rights committed by morocco against the Saharawis, according to the representation of the Polisario to Australia.
She delivered a lecture to the RMIT University on 1st May and gave a presentation to the student at Victoria University on 2 May 2012and was also interviewed by local media.
During her talks Malak Amidane outlined the history of the conflict in Western Sahara and the situation of human rights in the occupied territories, explained how the Saharawis face constant human rights abuses by the Moroccan security forces.
The Saharawi activist emphasized on the need for human rights monitoring by the UN mission in Western Sahara.
Malak gave evidences about how Morocco and foreign companies exploit the natural resources of Western Sahara without any benefit to the Saharawi people, calling on companies that are involved in the illegal trade of Western Sahara resources to stop as it is immoral, illegal and unethical to exploit the resource of a Non-Self-Governing Territory against the wishes and without a benefit to the indigenous population.(SPS)
