Festival of Culture and Folk Arts wraps up and reaffirms “Saharawi culture serving Intifada and independence”

Dakhla (refugee camps), May 5, 2012 (SPS) - The Festival of Culture and Folk Arts wrapped out Saturday morning in the Wilaya of Dakhla, by organizing a platform of solidarity with the Saharawi people in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, in the presence of national and international figures attending the 9th edition of FiSahara.
 

The speakers during the platform confirmed that this festival, being celebrated in Dakhla current May 3-5, demonstrated “the existence, excellence and originality of Saharawi culture as well as the value of the Saharawi human, through realizing self-sufficiency during all stages of his history.”
 

Participants of the platform underlined that such festival is one the battles to defend the Saharawi identity, pointing out to the place occupied Saharawi tent as a symbol for the identity and existence of Saharawi people, which have always accompanied the Saharawi resistance from the historic Zemla Uprising, Gdeim izik and daily demonstrations and sit-ins organized in occupied Western Sahara.
 

They also added that this festival sends a clear message to Moroccan occupation that the Saharawi culture is deep-rooted, confirming to the world that the Saharawi people are peaceful and determined to regaing their inalienable rights to freedom and independence.
 

The platform also hailed the sacrifices of the Saharawi masses in occupied Western Sahara, expressing “unconditional solidarity” with all the Saharawi activists who face repression and torture in Moroccan prisons and in the streets of the Saharawi occupied territories.
 

It therefore called for the release of all the Saharawi prisoners and unveil the whereabouts of disappeared and missings.
 

The Cultural Festival was held in conjunction with the annual International Film Festival in Western Sahara, known as FiSahara. (SPS)
