Moscow, May 18, 2012 (SPS) - The Communist Party of Russia has confirmed adherence to the principle of self-determination for all peoples including the people of Western Sahara, reiterating readiness to promote the cooperation on the issues of the common interest and to continue the political consultations, in a meeting held Thursday between Russian MP Vyacheslav Ilyukhin and POLISARIO Representative to Moscow, Mr. Ali Salem Mohamed Fadel.

“The Communist Party of Russia follows with great interest the developments of the Sahara question and hopes that the Saharawi people will achieve their ultimate goal of independence and construction of the Saharawi independent state,” the Russian MP confirmed.

On other hand, the Saharawi Representative was received Thursday at headquarters of Russian State Duma by MP Vyacheslav Tiyukin, member of Duma’s defense committee and presidency as well as secretary of central committee of Russian Communist Party, along with the MP Mr. Vyacheslav Butusov, member of the Russian Communist Party and president of the friendship and trade cooperation association with Arab countries.

The meeting was an opportunity for the Saharawi diplomat to recall to the long struggle of the Saharawi people and the suffering they experienced resulted from Morocco’s brutal occupation of an important part of Western Sahara. It was also an opportunity to brief the principles and values of the Intifada of independence carried out by the indigenous Saharawi population in the occupied part of Western Sahara, in addition to Moroccan occupation’s disregard to resolutions of the international agreements signed with the POLISARIO Front under the auspices of the United Nations to resolve the conflict.
