Algeria-Yemen: agreement to form Arab Committee of Solidarity with Saharawi people

Algiers, July 23, 2012 (SPS) - The President of the Algerian National Committee of Solidarity with the Saharawi people (CNASPS), Mr. Mehrez Lamari, announced Monday in Algiers that his organization and Algerian-Yemeni Brotherhood Association have agreed to work towards the establishment of Arab committee of solidarity with the Saharawi people.


Mr. Lamari said, during a meeting in Algiers with Yemeni delegation led by the President of Yemeni Students League and member of Algerian-Yemeni Brotherhood Association Mr. Hasan al-Khawlani, “this association will be formed by Arabic students’ movements, civil society and activists of human rights.”


Among the functions of this Arab Committee for Solidarity with the Saharawi people – added Mr. Lamari – is to work for providing all the support for the Saharawi people and stand by his side and support their cause within Arab circles.


President of CNASPS praised in this regard the Yemeni position supporting the just Saharawi cause and its stand with the side of the Saharawi people in their long overdue struggle for self-determination and for the right to build an independent state.


He also pointed out that the two sides agreed on the mobilization and recruitment of Algerian-Yemeni efforts to support the Saharawi people until achieving self-determination in line with UN resolutions, which call for the conduct of free and fair referendum in Western Sahara.


From his part, President of Yemeni Students League confirmed that a Yemeni popular committee of solidarity with the Saharawi people will be established within the framework of intensifying the Yemeni positions supporting the Saharawi just cause.


He revealed in this regard that a Yemeni delegation composed of activists of human rights and representatives of political parties will visit in the coming weeks the Saharawi refugee camps to closely see situation of the Saharawi refugees.


The Yemeni confirmed the support of his country’s students movement to the idea of forming an Arab committee of solidarity with the Saharawi people, where it will work for raising awareness about the just struggle of the Saharawi people.


Mr. Al-Khawlani took the opportunity to thank Algeria, which-as he said- has been supporting the just causes throughout the world and the right of peoples to self-determination, including the Palestinian and Saharawi peoples. (SPS)
