Harare, Sept 1, 2012 (SPS) - The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Zimbabwe, Mr. Simbarashe S. Mumbengegwi, has confirmed his country’s unconditional supporting position with right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and building an independent state, in a meeting with the Saharawi Ambassador in Harare Mr. Daich Mohamed.
“The Republic of Zimbabwe has always supported the just struggle of the Saharawi people,” quoted a statement reached Wednesday SPS.
“We strongly deplore the Moroccan intransigence and disrespect to international resolutions, as well as its thwarting to any attempt in the right way. We, therefore, condemn the continued violations of human rights in the occupied territories of Saharawi Republic,” Zimbabwean Foreign Minister told the Saharawi Ambassador.
Mr. Mumbengegwi called for the need to put an end to the continued disregard by Moroccan Kingdom to Saharawi people’s inalienable right to self-determination and independence, as well as its continued attempts aiming at undermine the international efforts, which has long been made to reach a final and just solution to the question of Western Sahara on the basis of international legitimacy.
The Saharawi, from his part, informed his interlocutor about the last developments of the Saharawi cause especially regarding the impasse the peace plan witnesses, due to the frequent Moroccan maneuvers and its position that ignores right of the Saharawi people to freedom and independence, denouncing in the same regard the gross human rights violations perpetuated in the occupied Western Sahara.
On other hand and in a meeting with the Saharawi Ambassador, Director of Asia and Pacific Ocean at Zimbabwean Foreign Ministry highlighted that Western Sahara is an issue of decolonization that “should be resolved on the basis of the principle of self-determination for the Saharawi people, through a free, just and democratic referendum.
He also asked the international community to confront Morocco’s intransigence and intensify the efforts in order to live up to its commitments in implementing the international resolutions and halting the violations of human rights in the occupied territories of Western Sahara. (SPS)
