Meeting of Associations of Solidarity with the Saharawi People in London

London, Spt 11, 2012 (SPS) - The Associations of Friendship and Solidarity with the Saharawi people in the United Kingdom have met last weekend to carry out a common strategy for coordination and collaboration in order to join efforts to put more pressure on the British government and raise awareness of civil society with respect for the inalienable right of the Saharawi people to self-determination,              according to statement of the Polisario representation to London.

 

The President of Western Sahara Campaign, Mark Leutchford valued the traditional position of the Government of the United Kingdom based on a just, mutually acceptable and respect the right of the people of Western Sahara to self-determination.

 

Mark Luechford highlighted the British government’s questioning to the Moroccan Minister of Justice in the last session of the UN Human Rights council in Geneva."It shows the concern of the UK authorities to the issue of human rights in the occupied territories. In addition to the abstention in the final vote for the extension of illegal fisheries agreement between Morocco and the European Union", he underlined.

 

"We must continue the efforts and increase the level of coordination with the Polisario Font  and other associations of solidarity with the Saharawi people in Europe to achieve our ultimate goal: freedom and justice for the Saharawi people", Leutchford said.

 

For his part, Polisario Deputy representative in London, Sidi Breika, applauded this  “positive step” , thanking  the present for their constant and unconditional support for the Saharawi people and their just cause

 

Breika informed the participants of the meeting about last developments of national question, particularly preliminary report of Ropert F. Kennedy center for Justice and Human Rights on the grave human rights situation in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.

The participants at the meeting agreed to organize awareness campaigns about the situation of human rights and looting of the Saharawi natural resources.  (SPS)
