Rabat (Morocco) Feb13,2013(SPS) - The military court of Rabat (Morocco) finished Tuesday evening the hearing of the 24 Sahrawi political prisoners as part of the trial of the “Gdeim Izik group”, which started on February 1st, judicial sources said.
At the end of these hearings, the defense lawyers asked for a medical expertise following the prisoners’ affirmations reporting “inhuman” treatments in detention, the same source added.
The trial will resume Wednesday with the hearing of the witnesses of the event which occurred in the fall of 2010, in Gdeim Izik, near occupied Al-Ayoun in Western Sahara where about 40,000 Sahrawi people set up some 3,000 tents and committed to “defend their political, economic and social rights” before being dismantled out by the Moroccan forces, on November 8, 2010.
During these four days of hearings (February 8-12), the 24 defendants particularly rejected all the charges “a criminal gang,” denouncing a “political trial” in relation with the Western Sahara issue, the same source said.
They also reaffirmed that they are peaceful activists and defenders of human rights.(SPS)
