President of Republic: falling of 90 victims in recent Moroccan repression reveals intention to repeat Gdeim Izik scenario

Bir Lehlou (liberated territories), April 29, 2013 (SPS) - The President of the Republic and Secretary General of the Frente POLISRIO Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz said, in another letter sent Sunday to the UN Secretary General, that the falling of 90 victims in the recent Moroccan repression “reveals an intention to repeat the scenario of the attack on Gdeim Izik camp.”

“As we mentioned in our last letter, Moroccan occupation authorities unveil an aforethought intention to repeat the same fabricated scenarios it used against the peaceful protest in the camp of Gdeim Izik on 8th November 2010. It intentionally resorted to filming operations in order to cock fabricated charges and ready files to justify the acts of arrest of Saharawi citizens in general, and human rights activists in particular, with the intention of bringing them before show trials, which lacks legitimacy, similar to the military trial, and put them, wrongfully and unjustly, inside its terrible prisons and jails,” writes the President of the Republic to Ban Ki-moon.

“It is a matter of great concern that Moroccan repression forces, in less than two days, cause the injury of more than 90 victims among the Sahrawi civilians, including women, children, elderly and people with special needs, in the occupied cities of El Aaiun, Smara and Boujdour,” he added.

President Mohamed Abdelaziz noted that the insistence of UN Security Council resolution 2099 (2013) on the protection of human rights in Western Sahara “was met by Moroccan government with more intransigence and gross human rights violations .”

“The world cannot remains standstill in front of a terrible and repeated scene of violent attack by Moroccan occupation forces against defenseless Saharawi  women, children and elderly, just because they demanded, peacefully, the respect for fundamental human  rights and freedoms, the release of Saharawi political prisoners and halting the theft of their natural wealth,” the letter stated.

“Whilst we condemn, in the strongest terms, these brutal repressive practices, we renew our call for the United Nations to urgently intervene in order to protect the people of Western Sahara, the territory which is under its direct responsibility, pending the decolonization and enabling the Saharawi people to exercise his inalienable right to self-determination and independence,” indicated the letter.
