UPES expresses deep gratitude for IFJ’s solidarity with Sahrawi Journalists

Chahid El-hafed, June 19, 2013(SPS)- The Sahrawi Journalists and Writers Union has expressed gratitude for the adoption of  a proposal on solidarity with Sahrawi journalists by  the 28th  Congress of the International federation of Journalists, in a communique issued today, Wednesday

 

“The Sahrawi Journalists and Writers Union, on behalf of all Sahrawi journalists everywhere, takes advantage on this occasion to express his thanks and gratitude to the Portuguese Press Syndicate, for this initiative. We, as well, pass our deep appreciation and respect to the International federation of Journalists on the adoption of this initiative, which we consider to be strong moral support for our journalists and strengthening factor in their insistence on the performance of their media noble mission” says the communique

 

UPES confirmed that “The ratification of this proposal by the International Federation of Journalists clearly reflects the feelings of solidarity and support expressed by more than 600,000 member journalists across the world despite the sufferings of Sahrawi journalists under Moroccan occupation of harassment of their Press freedom”.

 

“It also represents severe smack to the security grip imposed by the Moroccan occupation authorities over Western Sahara, and have exposed democracy powders and freedom of expression and the press, which Moroccan regime is trying to use to adorn his image before the world” added the statement

 

The Sahrawi organization said that “As The Sahrawi Journalists and Writers Union  appreciates this  gesture of solidarity, the calls on all press organizations and trade unions across the world to unite efforts and double action in order to lift the siege Media imposed on the occupied territories of Western Sahara and send  briefing missions to preview the state of repression and restrictions on freedom of the press and the work of journalists in the Sahrawi occupied territories where exists the unique UN mission without component of monitoring the human rights situation since 1991”.

 

It should be recalled that The twenty-eighth Congress of the International federation of Journalists, held between the 4th and 7th  of this month in Dublin, has endorsed on a proposal submitted by the Portuguese Press Syndicate, on solidarity with Sahrawi journalists in the occupied part of Western Sahara. The endorsed proposal considered the acts of violence, harassment, prosecution and confiscation of the journalistic means of work, pursued by the occupying Moroccan authorities against Sahrawi journalists, as grave violation of freedom of the press.(SPS)
