Submitted on

Algiers, June19, 2013 (SPS) - The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Algeria, Amar Balani, said Wednesday that Algeria requires, as a condition, respect for its position on Western Sahara for the reopening of its borders with Morocco, "we consider an incomplete decolonization process that must be resolved within the framework of the United Nations, in accordance with international law".

Speaking to Algerian Journal 'Aljabar', Amar Balani also noted that "the reopening of the borders requires the existence of key terms relating to the immediate cessation of the smear campaign officially and unofficially led against Algeria"

He Said that Algeria believes that the "sincere cooperation and effective and fruitful Moroccan authorities work to stop the flow of drugs and illegal smuggling from Morocco to Algeria is an essential condition before talking about the opening of the borders between the two countries ".

Balani rejected the statements attributed to the Secretary General of the Arab Lawyers Union, which called on Algeria to open its land borders with Morocco during a Lawyers sit-in in the Moroccan town of Saidia, near the borders with Algeria.

In this regard, He said "Algeria does not give importance to these statements because the issue of reopening of the border is a sovereign decision of the Algerian government." (SPS)
