Submitted on

Boumerdes (Algeria), Aug 17, 2013 (SPS) - Lecturer Brahim Baaziz strongly criticized, Tuesday in Boumerdes (50-km east of Algiers), the blackout imposed by the international media on the Saharawi issue regarding the "serious violations" perpetrated by the Moroccan authorities against the defenceless Sahrawi people in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.

Speaking on the second day of the Summer Sahrawi conference, Baaziz denounced the international media’s "ignorance" of the suffering endured by the Sahrawi people and the human right violations committed by Morocco.

He also denounced the "media blackout" imposed on the Sahrawi cause by the international media "which inflame tensions in several other regions in the world by playing on ethnic groups and minorities, which is contrary to the professional ethics.

"The intervener invited the Sahrawi media and the parties in charge of news in Western Sahara to adapt themselves to the current scientific changes "so that the Sahrawi media meet the expectations of the people who struggle for their right to self-determination and independence." (SPS)
