President of Republic received by Italian Chamber of Deputies

 Rome (Italy) 15 November 2013 (SPS) - The Italian Chamber of Deputies held Thursday morning a reception to honour President of the Republic Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mohamed Abdelaziz, and the delegation accompanying him, attended by Italians deputies led by Marina Sereni, vice president of the Italian Chamber of Deputies .

 

Mrs. Sereni welcomed the visit stating  that the struggle of the Saharawi people for its legitimate rights is ‘well recognised’ in Italy that has ‘great asset’ in the field of solidarity with the Sahrawi cause, pointing to the position of her country that calls for an urgent just and lasting solution guaranteeing the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination.

 

In his intervention, the President of the Republic spoke about the latest developments concerning the Sahrawi issue, highlighting the role that should be played by Italy as a parliament, government and civil society in Europe , so that the European Union will play a ‘positive and effective’ role in resolving the conflict in Western Sahara, in the context of a clear respect for international legitimacy, by means of a free , fair and impartial referendum of self - determination for the Saharawi people .

 

 The President of the Republic warned that the Moroccan government, with the support of European parties, seeks to involve the European peoples in the suspicious process based on the illegal plunder and exploitation of the resources of a territory under the control of the United Nation until its future is determined.

 

The President of the Republic also attended a hearing session in the Italian Chamber of Deputies, hosted by members of the committees of Africa and human rights, where the focus has been on the prospects for resolving the Western Sahara conflict and the reality of grave violations committed by the Moroccan State against peaceful Sahrawi civilians.

 

 It is noteworthy that the President of the Republic has started a visit to Italy, which will be concluded by attending the 38th Conference of the International Coordination of Solidarity with the Saharawi People, which launches Friday in Rome. (SPS)
