Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), Nov 19, 2013 (SPS) - A delegation of the United Nation Association of Germany, in a visit to the Saharaw refugee camps, has held a working meetings with Polisario Front’s leadership and members of the Saharawi government, a source close to the delegation told SPS.
The delegation, which is composed of 5 German scholars and experts, met in this regard with the Speaker to the Saharawis National Council (Parliament) Mr. Khatri Addouh, Prime Minister Mr. Abdelkader Taleb Omar, and several other Saharawi officials.
During their talks with Saharawi officials, German scholars put forward a set of ideas and questions on how to settle the conflict and the issue of natural resources.
They, therefore, put forward some proposals related to the negotiation process and the problems that block a political settlement in Western Sahara.
Responding to the questions of the German Association, Saharawi officials, each of his position, presented a forward-looking vision for a Saharawi state that consecrates the values of democracy and the respect for human rights, enshrined in the Constitution of the Saharawi Republic (SADR) and principles of the Frente Polisario.
They also reiterated Polisario Front’s willingness to to work in good faith so to reach a settlement providing for the self-determination of the Saharawi people, stressing that the independent Saharawi state would be a state of law and institutions respecting international conventions, especially when comes to neighbouring countries.
They, in the same context, added that it will be a partner not only in making peace and stability in North Africa, but also in the whole Sahel region.
The German delegation visited headquarters of the Association of Families of Saharawi Prisoners and Disappeared (AFAPREDESA) and National Museum of the Saharawi People’s Liberation Army.
The association is preaparing a study on the evolution of the conflict and the prospects for a settlement in Western Sahara, said the source. (SPS)
