Maputo, Dec 20, 2013 (SPS) - A Saharawi delegation, led by the Ambassador in Mozambique Mr. Wadadi Cheick Ahmed Lheiba, took part at the 3rd ordinary session of the African Union Conference of Ministers Responsible for Mineral Resources Development, held in the Mozambican capital from 16th to 17 December, informed SADR embassy in Maputo.
Speaking during the conference, Saharawi ambassador draw AU ministers’ attention to the "systematic looting" of Western Sahara wealth by Moroccan regime, calling for the mobilization to protect Saharawi natural resources and decolonize Western Sahara.
"Through entering into a fishing agreement which does not exclude Saharawi territories, the Kingdom of Morocco makes the European Parliament a part of the plundering of the natural resources in the occupied part of Western Sahara," pointed out the Saharawi diplomat.
Mr. Wadadi went on saying that such agreement "would encourage the Kingdom of Morocco to persistent in its occupation of the territories of the Saharawi Republic (SADR)."
He also called for the respect of international legitimacy and enable the Saharawi people to exercise their right to self-determination and freedom.
On this occasion, the Saharawi delegation held talks with the ministers of Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Ghana, Kenya, Angola and Nigeria.
The Conference held under the theme: "Leveraging the Africa Mining Vision for Africa's Renaissance towards broader ownership".
It was jointly organized by the African Union Commission (AUC), Republic of Mozambique and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). (SPS)
