Shaheed El Hafed (Sahrawi refugee camps), January 25, 2014 (SPS) - The visit of UN Secretary General Personal Envoy Christopher Ross in the region shows the interest the international community has for the Sahrawi issue, Speaker of the Sahrawi Parliament Khatri Eddouh said Thursday in Shaheed El Hafed (Sahrawi refugee camps).

Ross’ tour in the region “shows the interest the international community has for the Sahrawi issue within the current conjuncture and the urge to accelerate the settlement of this issue on the basis of the respect of Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination,” Eddouh, who is also member of the Sahrawi delegation in charge of negotiation, stated.

The Sahrawi official stressed “the implementation of the UN resolutions, underlining the right of Sahrawi people for self-determination, as the only way for the settlement of the conflict which lasts since four decades.”

“We’ve seen in this visit the willingness of the UN Secretary General Personal Envoy to give the negotiations a new impetus regarding the Sahrawi issue, Eddouh explained, recalling that “the Sahrawi party has always cooperated with the UN.” (SPS)
