Saharawi people have right to ask compensation from EU, says Mohamed Sidati

Algiers, Jan 29, 2014 (SPS) - The Saharawi people have the right to claim compensation from the European Union (EU) for the consequences resulting from the fishing agreement it signed with Morocco, including “illegally” the Western Sahara’s territorial waters on which it has no authority, the Saharawi Minister Delegate for Europe Mr. Mohamed Sidati stated.

“The Saharawis have the right to claim compensation from the UE and we remain determined invalidating this fishing agreement. We’ll plead at all levels and use all our legal remedies to cancel this illegal and inacceptable agreement,” Sidati told APS in an interview.

The representative of the Polisario Front explained that the Saharawis, with the support of international NGOs and lawyers, “will continue fighting” to show “the looting, the destruction of the sea bed and the over-exploitation.”

“We’ll continue fighting to show what is being done with the support of the EU, the looting operations of the resources of people who fight for their dignity and who are victim of repression,” he argued.

Many Euro deputies opposed to the resigning of the fishing agreement by the European Union, recently, and obstructed on the issue of respect of human rights in the occupied territories “if not the forcing of Spaniards,” he noted. (SPS)
