Namibia calls for speeding up implementation of Saharawi people’s self-determination

Addis Ababa, Jan 31, 2014 (SPS) - The President of the Republic of Namibia H.E Mr. Hifikepunye Pohamba has called for need to speed up the implementation of the self-determination referendum of the Saharawi people.


In his speech during the debate on peace and security council’s report submited to the 22nd African Union Summit, convened in Ethiopia, President of Namibia called for the need to speeily resolve the Western Sahara issue so to allow the Saharawi people to enjoy their right to self-determination and to live in an independent state.


While he opposed the illegal exploitation of Western Sahara natural resources by Morocco, Mr. expressed concern over the signing by the European Union of a fisheries agreement with Morocco, which includes the Saharawi territorial waters. (SPS)
