Algiers, March 11, 2014 (SPS) - A Saharawi delegation representing Workers Union (UGTSARIO), led by General-Secretary Mr. Mohamed Cheichk Lehbib, takes part at the 37th session of the General Council of the Organization of African Trade Union Unity (OATUU), held in Algiers on March 9-12, 2014.

The opening of the session was attended by the Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal, along with ministers and senior officials in the Algerian state.

In a letter addressed to President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, the African trade unions hailed Algeria’s full support to the liberation of Africa from colonialism, the Apartheid regime, racism and all forms of domination and exploitation, including that of Western Sahara.

Speaking during the event, the General-Secretary of the Saharawi Workers Union (UGTSARIO), Mr. Mohamed Cheichk Lehbib, drew the attendees' attention to the serious political and human rights situation in the occupied part of Western Sahara, underlying, in this regard, that there are pro-self-determination political prisoners who are sentenced to life in prison.

He also invited the Organization of African Trade Union Unity to organize an inclusive visit to the occupied territories of Western Sahara and Saharawi refugee camps, as to launch initiatives of solidarity with the Saharawi people in the future.

OATUU’s President, for his part, voiced “constant support” to the Saharawi workers and people in general in their fight against injustice and colonialism, pledging to make efforts in this direction. (SPS)
