Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), April 8, 2014 (SPS) - The Council of Ministers has condemned, in the strongest terms, the practices carried out by Moroccan occupying state in the occupied Saharawi territories, calling upon the United Nations to speed up the decolonization of Western Sahara.
In a communique issued at the end of a meeting held Monday, the Council strongly deplored Morocco’s practices against the Saharawi people, urging the UN to speed up the assumption of its responsibility regarding the decolonization of Western Sahara, and thus to conduct a referendum on self-determination for the Saharawi people, halt the looting of Saharawi natural resources and pull down Morocco’s separartion military wall.
The Council highlighted that the Moroccan occupying state imposes a tight siege over the streets and neighbourhoods of the occupied Saharawi cities, adding that it practices brutal repression, abduction and detention against Saharawi children, women, elderly, people with special needs and human rights defenders.
Recalling to the lately-declared international campaign for the release of all Saharawi political prisoners, the Council indicated that Morocco’s continuation to wrongfully detain, in grave state of health and after mock trials, including martial one, Saharawi prisoners is incompatible with the principles of human rights and does not reflect any honest intention from the part of Moroccan state to cooperate constructively with the UN efforts.
The communique also pointed out to Morocco’s policies of expansion and occupation as well as the increasing flow of drugs endanger security, peace and stability in the region.
The meeting examined the calendar of events included in the government’s programme for the 2014, which has approved by the Saharawi National Council (Parliament), of which the 14th edition of the International Film Festival in Western Sahara (FiSahara) and the ongoing preparations for the reception of guests of the Saharawi people.
