Council of Ministers condemns Morocco’s escalating repression against innocent Saharawis

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), April 24, 2014 (SPS) - The Council of Ministers has strongly condemned Thursday Morocco’s serious escalating repression against innocent Saharawis in the occupied citites of El Aaiun, Smara, Dakhla, Boujdour and others, denouncing the tight siege it imposes over the whole occupied part of Western Sahara.


Chaired by the President of the Republic Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, the Council condemned the “systematic expulsion” from occupied Western Sahara of a large number of independent international observers, lately of which a women delegation which was due to take part at an international conference of solidarity with Saharawi woman’s resistance.


In a communiqué issued at the end of this meeting, the Council warned of the serious escalation policy pursued by the Moroccan occupying state, translated in his visit to the occupied city of Dakhla while the UN Security Council discusses the Secretary General’s report on the Western Sahara.


The Council, in this respect, described the move as a “flagrant challenge and disregard” to the international legitimacy, Security Council members as well we to the efforts being undertaken by the Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy.


Highlighting the miserable condition of the Saharawi political prisoners, the statement recalled to the national and international campaign for their release, asking Morocco to unveil the whereabouts of Saharawis missing.


The meeting, on other hand, examined several issues, including the latest developments on the Saharawi cause, some draft laws to be submitted to parliament, of which prison and miming laws.


The Council also heard about the preparations for the 11th edition of Western Sahara International Film Festival (FiSahara) and local festival of culture and folk arts, to be celebrated in the Wilaya of Dakhla from current 29th April to 4th May. (SPS)
