ADDIS ABABA, May 4, 2014 (SPS) - Saharawi delegation chaired by the Minister of Development and Agriculture, Naama Said Jamani, participated to the meetings of the Conference of Ministers of Agriculture, Rural Development, Fisheries and Aquaculture between 28 April and 2 May, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The Saharawi Minister was accompanied by the Permanent Representative of the SADR in AU and Ethiopia, Lamine Baali, and members of the Saharawi diplomatic corps Mr. Sid Ahmed and Ms. Maria Iid Saila.
The Joint Conference was held as one of a series of events commemorating 2014 as the Year of Agriculture and Food Security in Africa, which was launched on January 30, 2014 during the 22nd Assembly of the Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia under the theme “Transforming Africa’s Agriculture for shared prosperity and improved livelihoods: Harnessing Opportunities for Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development.”
The Ministerial meeting was preceded by a two day meeting of Senior Officials and Experts that took place on 28th and 29th of April 2014 to examine the various documents and prepare their report to the Ministers.
group-0001A Panel Discussion was also organized on fisheries, in which the Saharawi delegation clearly accused Morocco and the EU of plundering the natural resources of the occupied territories of Western Sahara. An intervention that initiated a deeper discussion on the general plunder of the natural resources of Africa by other entities. (SPS)
