El Aaiun (Occupied Territories), June 10, 2014 (SPS) - The Akdeim Izik Coordination for peaceful activism organised a demonstration on Friday to call for the release of the Saharawi political prisoners, reported Sahrawi human rights sources.
The demonstration took place in the occupied city of El Aaiun, at Smara Street near the Ma'atala neighbourhood, an area predominantly inhabited by Saharawi citizens.
More than 15 Saharawi citizens were injured when the Moroccan occupying forces intervened to disperse the demonstration. Among the injured persons are Yehdiha Haimouda, Touailia Belgasem, Hadhoum Karkoub, Hamadi Lfakhar, Lkouara Lamina, Lafkir Mahfouda, Chtouki Zainan Lehbib Essalhi, Essadouni Ali, Hamza El Filali, Salama Baha, Dahane Lhouij, Lkhfaouni Louali, Abdala Bourga'a, and Said Haddad, a disabled person. The latter was kicked on his head and on his back.
Moreover, the group of Saharawi former disappeared persons, survivors of Moroccan secret detention centres (Agdez and Kala't de Megoune), organised on Friday evening an exhibition in which they presented certain manual products like prayer beads, sandals and guitars; artistic and literary products such as poems, stories and a theatre play that shows the resistance of the Saharawi activists for independence even in jails.
This event was organised to commemorate the 23rd anniversary of their liberation thanks to the efforts of the Polisario Front and of certain organizations and international forums. (SPS)
