Obama and Ban Ki-moon are called on to make Morocco releases all Saharawi political prisoners

Algiers, December 15, 2014 (SPS)- The American organization "Western Sahara Foundation" called on Saturday in Algiers, the US President Barack Obama and Secretary General of the UN, Ban Ki-moon to put pressure on Morocco to release "immediately" all Saharawi political prisoners languishing in Moroccan jails.

 

The American organization, which took part in the 5th International Conference in Algiers on "The right of peoples to resist: the case of the Saharawi people," interpellated Obama and Ban on the situation of the Saharawi political prisoners in Moroccan prisons.

 

The US organization asked the two leaders to "act" on the occasion of the next meeting of the UN Security Council on the organization of self-determination referendum for the Saharawi people.

 

"The Sahrawi citizens were subjected to arbitrary arrests and torture before being tried in military trials with very heavy penalties," added the American organization.

 

In a petition submitted to be approved by the participants in the Conference of Algiers, the organization stressed that "Their imprisonment and trial are gross violations of human rights in many international conventions ". (SPS)
