Salé (Morocco), December 22, 2014 (SPS) -Saharawi political prisoner Mbarek Daoudi decided Sunday to suspend "temporarily" his unlimitted hunger strike, according to the Ministry of the Occupied Territories and Saharawi Community Abroad.
The protest was initiated more than 7 weeks ago in the Moroccan prison of Salé against his arbitrary detention, the repeated postponement of his trial and torture and ill-treatment he suffered in prison.
The decision comes in response to multiple calls of the Sahrawi authorities, national and international organizations of human rights, as well as family members and friends to save his life, said the source, citing a statement of the person concerned.
The political prisoner Mbarek Daoudi said he received "an oral commitment from the Moroccan military court fixing December 25, the date of appearing for the second time before this court," added the source.
He reiterated his commitment to defend the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and attachment to the sole legitimate representative of the Saharawi people, the Frente POLISARIO.
Mbarek Daoudi held the Moroccan authorities responsible for his arbitrary arrest and that of his sons to which "exposed them to the worst forms of psychological and physical torture, simply for defending the just cause and the peaceful struggle of our people for independence of Western Sahara ".
