Algiers, January 30, 2015 (SPS) - The shipping of the humanitarian aid meant to Saharawi refugees is carried out with "openness" and "rigor" and in the respect of follow-up and control mechanisms, the representatives of the European Union humanitarian aid office (ECHO) and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in Algeria told APS on Friday.
The different stages of the humanitarian aid shipping to Saharawi refugee camps in Algeria's southwest (purchase, transportation, storage, distribution, etc.) are submitted to a monitoring excluding any form of misappropriation, said the representatives of the offices of ECHO in the Maghreb and the WFP, respectively Herve Caiveau and Francesca Caponera.
"The humanitarian aid, including food, is monitored as soon as it arrives until its distribution to the beneficiaries. Monitoring is carried out during the shipping, at the central storehouse, during the storage, at the departure of the trucks towards the refugee camps, during the distribution and the reception by the beneficiaries of the aid," Caiveau said.
The European Union humanitarian aid office devotes EUR10 million a year in such aid to Saharawi refugees, Caiveau said, adding that the aid went afterwards to a number of partners for distribution, such as United Nations Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the WFP. (SPS)
