AU Executive Council reiterates “grave” concern on continuous illegal occupation of Western Sahara

Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), January 31, 2015 (SPS) - The Executive Council of the African Union (Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs) has adopted a text reiterating its grave concern in the face of the continuous illegal occupation of the territories of Western Sahara which have not yet been visited by the ACHPR in pursuance of the decision of the Executive Council on the issue.

 

The Council demands the speedy implementation of the United Nations and AU Resolutions in order to guarantee within the shortest possible time, self -determination for the Saharawi people which has been delayed for a long time.

 

To this end, the Council recommends that the AU should organize some of its activities in the liberated territories of Western Sahara as a sign of solidarity with the Saharawi people in their legitimate struggle for self-determination and independence.

 

It also recommends to the Assembly to adopt a Special Declaration condemning the holding of Crans Montana Forum in Dakhla in the occupied territory of Western Sahara. (SPS)
