Chahid Al hafed (refugee camps), Feb 19, 2015 (SPS) - The Council of Ministers on Thursday condemned, in the strongest term, the Moroccan occupying state’s policies of procrastination and obstruction to the international efforts, demanding action from the UN to decolonize the last colony in Africa, Western Sahara.

In a communiqué issued at the end its meeting held under chairmanship of the President of the Republic Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, the Council underlined the political and legal framework of the Western Sahara conflict “is specified in the Charter and resolutions of the United Nations, which is not subject for misrepresentation especially by an illegal military occupying power like Morocco.”

Calling on the UN to act in favour of the conflict zone of Western Sahara under its responsibility, the communiqué urged to lift up the tight siege imposed over the occupied territories of Western Sahara and stop the gross violations of human rights and increasing plunder of Saharawi natural resources by the Moroccan occupying state.

It, in this respect, stressed the need to exert the necessary pressure on Morocco to immediately release Gdeim Izik detainees and the Saharawi political prisoners languishing in Moroccan jails.

The Council also called to set up a UN effective mechanism to protect, monitor and report about the situation of human rights in occupied Western Sahara. (SPS)
