Algiers, Feb 24, 2015 (SPS) - The Saharawi Government has called on the international community, notably the UN, to open “an urgent investigation” into Morocco’s violations of human rights in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, said Monday Ambassador in Algeria Mr. Brahim Ghali.
The official indicated that the Saharawis in occupied Western Sahara have lived a horrifying and bloody week characterized by a series of human rights violations by Moroccan forces, lastly of which the death of Mohamed Lamin Haidala, aboring the fetus of Lalla Al-Mosawi, let alone a campaign of arrests and arbitrary practices against the Saharawi prisoners.
The official underlined that the silence of international civil society in front of such abuses by Morocco is “a crime does serve neither humanity nor international legitimacy.”
“Given the serious escalation of violence against the Saharawi citizens in the occupied territories, the Saharawi government insists on the need to extend the mandate of MINURSO for the protection and report about the situation of human rights in Western Sahara and to monitor the Morocco’s plundering of Saharawi resources,” added Mr. Brahim Ghali.
