SADR Permanent Representative to AU leads humanitarian assessment mission to Republic of South Sudan

Juba (South Sudan), 25 April, 2015 (SPS) - H.E. Mr Lamine BAALI, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) to the African Union and Ethiopia has led the African Union humanitarian assessment mission delegation to the Republic of South Sudan.

 

The mission took place from 19h to 25th April 2015 and has the opportunity to assess the situation of Internally Displaced Persons living in different camps in Juba, as well as, in refugee camps.

 

During the visit the delegation met with various officials in Government Ministries and agencies, UN agencies, international and national non-governmental organizations that are actively operating in the country particularly with the affected communities.

 

“I thank the authorities of the Republic of South Sudan for facilitating the visit and , all Ministries and agencies, UN agencies, international and national non-governmental organizations  for honest and frank discussions the delegation has with them during the visit  .”

 

“This visit was an important occasion for the delegation to have first hand information, and undoubtedly it is an important tool to get a full picture of the humanitarian situation of  the Republic of South Sudan,  and it is a gesture of solidarity with our brothers and sisters of a  member state of AU” Said Ambassador Mr Lamine BAALI .

 

The humanitarian assessment mission to the Republic of South Sudan is part of the work programme of the PRC Sub-Committee on Refugees, Returnees and Displaced Persons.

 

The objective of the mission is to come up with appropriate recommendations aimed at supporting the effective delivery of humanitarian assistance to the country by the African Union as well as encourage other brotherly African states to offer much needed support to the people of South Sudan.
