Shaheed Elhafed (Refugee Camps), May 8, 2014 (SPS) - The National Secretariat of Polisario Front has condemned the negative role of France through "its continued support to the Moroccan expansionist and colonial policies in Western Sahara."
In a statement issued at the end of the 11th session of its National Secretariat, Polisario Front held France responsible for the prolongation of the conflict, and urged it to reconsider its policy regarding the conflict with a view to implementing the United Nations resolutions to end the suffering of the Sahrawi people and contribute efficiently to the promotion of peace and stability in all the region.
"France, taking the advantage of its right of veto at the United Nations Security Council, is hindering the UN efforts to end the forty-year long conflict in Western Sahara, the former Spanish colony invaded by Morocco in 1975, with the support of Paris," said the statement.
The Polisario Front called for "a clear framework that enables the Sahrawi people to exercise their right to self-determination and independence, in accordance with the Resolution 1514 and the UN-African Union joint peace plan of 1991 signed by the two parties and approved by the Security Council."
The Polisario Front called on Spain to assume its legal, political and moral responsibility towards the Sahrawi people, through the adoption as a member of the Security Council of a "position consistent with its status of administering power, whose duty is to decolonize the Western Sahara and enable the Sahrawi people exercise their right to freedom and independence," said the statement.
