Harare, May 26, 2015 (SPS) - Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe has renewed his country’s support and solidarity with the struggle of the Saharawi people for freedom and independence, in a statement delivered on his own behalf by FM Simbarashe Mumbengegwi in a ceremony hosted Monday by Zimbabwe Foreign Ministry to mark the 52nd anniversary of Africa Day.

“While the liberation agenda of OAU/AU has largely been achieved, let us not forget our brothers and sisters in Western Sahara, who are still fighting for their independence and self-determination,” said President Mugabe, calling for the necessity to liberate Western Sahara, the last colony in Africa, so to achieve the founding fathers’ vision for an independent and fully sovereign continent.

Highlighting Africa’s aspiration to achieve peace, security and development, head of the Zimbabwean diplomacy said the Moroccan occupation of Western Sahara still an obstacle to put into reality those aspirations.

The ceremony was attended by ministers, members of parliament, senior officials in Zimbabwe Foreign Ministry, diplomatic missions accredited to Harare, including of which the Ambassador of the Saharawi Republic (SADR) Mr. Deich Mohamed Saleh. (SPS)
