Emilia Romagna Parliament calls for setting a date for referendum of self-determination in Western Sahara

Emalia Romagna (Italy), 18 June 2015 (SPS) -Parliament of Emilia Romgna's region has issued on Wednesday recommendation in favor of the national cause, demanding to set a date for the holding  a referendum of self-determination of the Saharawi people, in accordance with  the Settlement Plan of 1991, signed by two parties of  the conflict.

 

The recommendation also focused on the serious violations of human rights committed by the Moroccan occupation against the Saharawi citizens in the Occupied Territories, according to largest human rights organizations, recalling the Italian parliament demand to provide the MINURSO the power to protect human rights in the Western Sahara.
 

Recommendation discussed the efforts of the United Nations and the decisions of the UN Security Council for the decolonization of Western Sahara, pointing out the historic decision of the African Peace and Security Council concerning the Sahrawi issue.


From another hand, the recommendation expressed concern about the humanitarian aid critical situation in the Saharawi refugee camps.

 

It should be recalled, that Emilia Romagna Parliament since 1997 has called for action to accelerate the holding of a referendum of self-determination of the Saharawi people, based on international legitimacy and the International Court of Justice decision in 1975. SPS
