Algeria and Mali reaffirm support to United Nations efforts for solution to Western Sahara conflict

Algiers, 2 Sep. 2015 (SPS) - Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika and his Malin counterpart Ibrahim Boubacar Keita have reaffirmed support to the efforts of the United Nations to find a mutually acceptable political solution that provides for the self-determination of the people of Western Sahara.  

 

The two heads of state "reiterated their support to the efforts of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon and his special envoy Christopher Ross, aiming at reaching a mutually acceptable political solution, which provides for the self-determination for the Saharawi people in accordance with the resolutions of the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly," said Tuesday a joint statement at the end of the working and friendship visit of Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita to Algeria.

 

Algeria and Mali also called for the "deep reform of the United Nations, with the active involvement of African countries in the decision-making process within the organization, in accordance with the common African position expressed in Ezulwini Consensus," said the joint statement.

 

The Malian president arrived Sunday afternoon in Algiers for a three-day working visit at the invitation of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika. (SPS)
