AU Staff Association donates 50.000 $ to assist Saharawi victims of floods in the refugee camps

Addis Ababa(Ethiopia) October 27, 2015 (SPS) -The President of the AU Staff Association, Dr. Salah Hammad, declared in a press release issued Monday, that the bureau of his organization decided to donate 50.000$ to the Saharawi refugees facing disastrous situation due to torrential rain and floods these past ten days.

“As our African sisters and brothers in the Saharawi camps are facing this serious crisis, the Executive Committee of the African Union Staff Association (Bureau) wishes to contribute a total of 50.000$ … on behalf of the AU Staff family.”

The press release further recalled that “heavy rain and flooding have caused widespread damage to the five camps providing shelter to our sisters and brothers, the refugees from the Saharawi.”

The number in need, according to the Press Release, “could increase as the rains, which began last Friday, are forcast to continue until at least Sunday. Luckily, there have been no reports of casualties among the Saharawi people. Those left homeless are being sheltered by relatives and neighbours, but thousands are still in need of support and assistance.”

It should also be recalled that Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, had donated 200.000 US$ last Sunday to assist the Saharawi refugees victims of serious torrential rain and floods. (SPS)
